Littleton water's history
In the year of 1902 typhoid fever spread, which made town officials want to secure a water source. 7 1/2 acres were purchased on Mt. Garfield in a bond of $200,o00. The 8 mile long pipe that moves the water is still in usage to this day, it was put in the ground in 1903; it moves 800,000 gallons of water a day.

Wow, its amazing to think of that 8 mile long pipe, I wonder who is in charge of inspecting the pipe and how often it is checked for leaks! I also wonder what material the pipe is made out of!?
ReplyDeleteI thought that the pipe still being in the ground and in use since 1903 was pretty cool. If the pipe ever fails, i wonder what the town will do to continue water flow to the town.
ReplyDeleteThe time it took to get the project going is much quicker than it takes now, must be they did not have to have commitees and studies done. I was unaware of the reason for the line.
